About this Apprenticeship

A client of ours in the Witham area are recruiting a Trainee Import Customs Administrator to join their team. This is a full-time position working Monday - Friday 8.00am - 5.00pm and paying up to 24,000 per annum.

Reporting to the Customs Manager, key duties include but are not limited to:

  • Signing of documents under a Power of Attorney on behalf of clients.
  • Recognise client commercial invoice(s) and packing list(s) extracting data as necessary to complete import declarations.
  • Liaising with importers and internal operational colleagues to obtain information for import entries.
  • Aiding clients on the classification of goods and their importance.
  • Entering details onto specialised Customs software.
  • Allocating the correct licences depending on type of goods being imported.
  • Application of duty refunds and tariff reclassification as appropriate and will assist with any appeals that may arise.
  • Be fully conversant with import Customs regulations, whilst keeping up to date with changes as they occur.
  • Inform customers on import restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements and all other Customs related matters.
  • Preparation of necessary import documentation, including T-documents, EUR1's, Certificates of Origin (CofO), CVED and other cargo control documents, as well as discharge process of T-documents etc.
  • Liaise with Port Health or Customs officials in areas such as document checks, goods quarantine etc.
  • Arrange the release of goods from Customs approved sites (ETSF locations) and/or port of arrival with liaison with internal colleagues on release, transport & warehousing issues.


Skills and Experience required to be considered for this Trainee Import Customs Administrator position:

  • Excellent Customer Service skills
  • Logistics Distribution and Supply Chain experience desirable but not essential
  • Educated to an A-level standard
  • Excellent administration skills
  • Numerical skills essential, with excellent data handling ability
  • Proficient with the Microsoft packages
