Trainee Design Engineer

Overall Job purpose:

As a Design Engineer, you will work on diverse projects from concept through to completion. This includes full plant layouts, bespoke machinery, and custom modifications of existing systems. You will also collaborate closely with other engineers, fabricators, and technicians to ensure everything fits together. This role would suit someone who has recently completed a relevant qualification or degree, or has some experience in CAD and 3D design and an interest in mechanical systems

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Produce 3D CAD models (preferably SolidWorks) and sales drawings
  • Create layout and rendering drawings for waste processing systems
  • Liaise with structural engineers to validate designs
  • Generate fabrication and manufacturing documentation
  • Provide setting-out drawings for the on-site installation team
  • Support continuous improvement with feedback and technical insight
  • Work closely with fabricators and technicians throughout production.

Requirements & Person Specification:

  • Familiarity with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Understanding of mechanical systems
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Great communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Ability to work from our client's Wellington office Monday to Friday
