Clarkson Owens Recruitment are working with a growing main contractor who are looking to bring on board a Trainee Buyer.


Key Responsibilities


  • Assist with sourcing and procuring materials and plant to meet site requirements.
  • Obtain and analyse supplier RFQs, ensuring commercial competitiveness and alignment with tender allowances.
  • Prepare and process purchase orders in line with procurement procedures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Chase deliveries as and when required.
  • Monitor and report on late deliveries.
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies and maintain contract pricing schedules.
  • Attend stakeholder meetings with Senior Buyer.
  • Support Senior Buyer with delegated tasks.
  • Occasional site and supplier visits with Senior Buyer, as required.


Requirements for the role:


  • Strong numeracy skills and commercial awareness.
  • High attention to detail and excellent organisational ability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Effective communicator with a willingness to learn and a disciplined work ethic.
  • Genuine interest in construction and commercial operations.
  • We value initiative, accountability, and a desire to understand the business.
  • Full and valid UK driving license.


Desirable:


  • Previous experience in construction or a commercial environment.
  • Understanding of construction materials and procurement processes.
  • Ambition to pursue a professional career in construction procurement.
