Trainee Plant Fitter Apprentice (Construction Equipment Maintenance Mechanic – CEMM)

As a Trainee Plant Fitter Apprentice, you will support the maintenance, servicing and repair of a wide range of construction plant and equipment while developing your technical skills through structured training and hands-on experience. Working alongside experienced engineers in both workshop and site environments, you will assist with inspections, diagnostics, servicing, fault finding and repairs, gaining the skills required to become a qualified Plant Fitter.

This is a 2-year Level 2 Construction Equipment Maintenance Mechanic (CEMM) Apprenticeship, delivered in partnership with the National Construction College (NCC) East, Bircham Newton, Norfolk. The programme combines full-time employment with 25 weeks of residential college training delivered through block release over 24 months. Subject to performance and business requirements, there is also the opportunity for a further 12-month extension.

During the apprenticeship, you will gain experience servicing, maintaining and repairing a variety of equipment, including excavators, telehandlers, pumps, generators, compaction equipment and other specialist plant machinery. Training will cover:

  • Health & Safety and safe working practices
  • Hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic systems
  • Diesel and petrol engines
  • Servicing, maintenance and diagnostics
  • Braking, steering and transmission systems
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Inspection, testing and machine handovers
  • Modern diagnostic equipment and fault finding techniques

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • An interest in mechanics, engineering or plant equipment
  • GCSE Grade 3 or equivalent in Maths and English
  • Good practical and problem-solving skills
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Willingness to attend residential college blocks in Norfolk

Desirable:

  • Previous experience with tools, machinery or vehicle maintenance
  • Applicants aged 21 or over with a full UK driving licence will be at an advantage, as this can support future site-based work and progression into field service roles.
