HGV Mechanic

Technique Recruitment Solutions are a specialist Engineering Recruitment company based in Norfolk working with a family owned business who require an experienced HGV and Plant mechanic to join their busy workshop

General Duties

To carry out routine maintenance and repair of heavy vehicles and plant as defined by the Workshop Manager and vehicle manufacturers specification with minimum supervision

To maintain and repair all types of petrol, diesel and alternative fuel powered vehicles and plant operated by the company

To conduct routine inspections, condition reports, indicating if uneconomic to repair, and pre-MOT/DOT inspections as necessary.

To undertake roadworthiness inspections of vehicles in operational use

To diagnose vehicle defects including use of IT based diagnostic equipment and inform the Workshop Manager work content.

To identify repairs required through unfair wear and tear and advise the Service Manager/Assistant Service Manager.

To carry out general repairs and major overhauls or replacement of engines and gearboxes as required.

To attend vehicle breakdowns and conduct roadside repairs as necessary

To carry out basic automotive electrical work.

To carry out gas and electrical welding as necessary.

To co-ordinate the scheduling of repairs and ordering/receiving of parts etc.

To carry out modifications that may be necessary to meet operational requirements, including any fabrication work and adaptations to equipment in accordance with directions.

To maintain workshop vehicles in a clean and tidy condition

To maintain a safe, clean and tidy working environment at all times.

To complete all documentation including inspection sheets, certificates, receipts, applying signatures as appropriate.

NVQ, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship or equivalent trained would be a benefit

Working hours are Monday to Friday 7-5 with occasional Saturdays, rate of pay £12-17 per hour dependant on experience
