I have an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or a second jobber Mechanical Design Engineer to join an expanding scientific instrumentation company who wishes to invest and develop your career. I am looking for a switched on, sharp minded person who is keen to learn and start designing next generation products.
The business designs and manufactures scientific test equipment for use in the energy and materials testing sector. The product base encompasses both conventional and renewable energy sources and well as a wide variety of other industries. The role will suit a multi-disciplined, electro-mechanical design engineer who is a team player with a natural enthusiasm and desire to be responsible for products from conception to production.
Working within a small, dedicated team the role will be hands on and directly involved in design and development of both new and existing instruments. This will involve close liaison with all aspects of the business.
Key Accountabilities
Design and Development of new advanced automatic instruments to agreed specifications, costs, timescales and latest directives, from conception to production
Conduct design reviews on new projects and existing instruments. Develop, recommend and drive engineering improvements where applicable.
Research current, emerging technologies and testing techniques / opportunities. Make proposals for development of new instrumentation or incorporation of new generation technology in existing instruments.
Participate in the technical sign-off of documentation and ensure that changes made do not breach original design, test criteria or safety directives.
Liaison with all parts of the business, particularly production engineering and the supply chain to ensure a smooth transition from prototype to production.
Ensure all designs are fully documented.
Participation in the QMS systems, including ISO9001, ISO14001 and others as required by the business.
Experience, Qualifications & Skills Required
Enthusiastic engineer with a first or upper second class degree in an engineering discipline
Experience in engineering and engineering design, preferably automotive, medical devices, automated machinery, aerospace or high precision engineering related
Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as CNC, milling, turning, sheet metal, moulding, 3D printing, welding, casting, coatings and finishing
Hands on practical approach to problem solving and design
Great communication and able to work within a young and energetic team comprising of highly skilled
mechanical design, software and hardware engineers.
