Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship -  EMC Apprentice

Our exciting EMC Apprentice role should develop your skills to become a confident, positive and flexible engineer. With well-honed technical knowledge gained from the academic commitments and supporting the team to deliver EMC knowledge and testing capability to Thales UK .

The role of Electromagnetic Compatibility or EMC engineer is to make sure that the products we design will work in real-life by undertaking a series of tests that show that the item being tested is not affected by emissions around it (radio waves, pulses, lightning strikes etc). They also make sure that the item under test does not emit anything that may affect the environment in a way that is unexpected or will cause problems.

As an EMC Apprentice, you will develop the key skills and experience in the following:

  • Knowledge of natural and manmade EMC environments.

  • Accredited measurement techniques.

  • Pre-compliance & investigative measurement techniques.

  • EMC design best practices.

  • Understanding of electronics, RF theory and principles.

  • Practical application electronics/RF theory through manual and automated test and measurement.

The Programme:

Through our apprenticeship, you’ll be making the most of your talents, getting to understand engineering from the ground up; and doing so with the help of one of the biggest and best names in the industry.

As a EMC apprentice you will be working towards a Level 3 in Engineering Technician. For the duration of this 3-4 year programme you will be given one day per week in which to complete your studies with a local college. For the other 4 days you will be working in the business, applying your learning and gaining a breadth of experience across the industry.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are motivated, committed and keen to learn. Someone who enjoys applying themselves to hands-on technical challenges and enjoys making or fixing things in their spare time. A self-starterwho is able to manage their timeshow initiative and has a genuine interest in engineering and Thales. Successful candidates will show self-discipline and an aspiration to complete further education with the possibility of progressing to a degree.

You will also need:

Candidates will need a minimum of 5 GCSE’s A-C (5 and above) including English, Maths and a further STEM subject

Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the 3-4 year programme
